Star Cafe, Taman Desa

Our best buddy was in town just lately, somehow buying vouchers for dine-in seems to be like a must for us. Hey! Who can resist such good deals if you know you’ll dine & wine till wee hours? It wasn’t till wee hours for us, but late night.
We bought a good deal through http://www.everyday.com.my/coupons/kl/Star_Cafe.htm that ended with a tremendous response. Reservation was a brisk and we showed up on 8th August for the dinner.
Fiona used to be Star Café’s regular customer those bygone days and it used to be a pub yet still serves food, but I’ve never step in as it’s more to a pub kind of atmosphere set-up.
The recent refurbishment in my opinion was really relaxing as it is really airy thanks to the open concept and full blast from the fans & air-conds, brrrrr! The interior was furnished with laid back rattan chairs so you can sit back and sip in with your best buddies.

We gave our vouchers and the waiter take care the rest. Drinks and soups were served promptly. While the voucher entitles milk shakes rather than the same old soft drinks or Ice Lemon Tea, most of them opt for the latter.

The Mushroom Soup that smelled too much of Ajinomoto

Strawberry Milk Shake

The RM 17.90 voucher includes a bowl of Mushroom Soup, one Main Course, one dessert & one drink. The gang ordered the Chicken Cordon Blue or Lamb Shank even though there were about 4 choices given for the Main Course.
Megan and Fiona ordered the Supreme of Chicken Cordon Blue. Basically, it is Chicken Breast stuffed with Ham and Cheddar Cheese, Deep Fried and served with Fries and Vegetable. Both said it was alright and being surrounded by adorable friends, they scoop some for me to try!

Braised NZ Lamb Shank with Aromatic Herbs served with Spaghetti came and we were impressed, talk about the size of the platter and the bone! It’s a good tool to train the dogs! Feedback was alright too, as the reunion was more important than the food, or so wise?

Since “H” was not able to attend, I did not use mine and instead ordered a plate of Fried Rice, I’m starving man! For RM 15, I thought it’s gonna just be a plate of plain Fried Rice, but to my delight, it came with Chicken Skewer. There you go, my gang was mesmerized why I am always related to Skewer. I’m a happy hungry girl!

Since most of the people knew Fiona, we had the pleasure to ask the Chef to pose for us at the kitchen.

I did not order any drink, assuming the gang would order beers later. It wasn’t until the sweet waiter came with a glass of water for me noticing I was thirsty, now this is top notch!

Staring in your eyes.....I feel your love...

Service is always prompt with waiters came clearing the plates and eventually ice-creams were served. We ordered 2 jugs of Carlsberg beer for RM40 each, I think it’s a good bargain and we continued our drinking, chatting & sharing session with everyone going home a happier person filled with laughter and love.

Some kampung-ness dinner...

It has been quite a while since my last update. Some friends asked how is my blog doing, I’ve come to realized I’ve neglected my blog for ages, thus this post.
This was a makan outing was on 23rd July, Saturday at Kampung Bahru Balakong at Balakong. Fiona initiated the dinner after my dad helped her to fixed her car, what’s thought to be a major fix turned out to be a less-than 5 minute fix!

We arrived at Restoran Makanan Laut Hee Loy Fatt. The factory shoplot hosts to approx 50 tables or more, with most of the tables occupied when we reach there at almost 8pm. We were hungry, and ordered 4 dishes.

Fiona & Keci Meow
The first dish came, Stir Fried Vegetable with Salted Egg Yolk (apologies as my mind went blank, I forgot wat's it called, similar to Long Bean). Our first bite and we were addicted! Surely something different and we didn’t mind eating it with plain rice. The second dish took quite a while to reach and by the time it came, we have already polished off the vegetable.

Second dish, Claypot Prawn with Spicy Cucumber Soup came to our table. As fast as a thunder, the waiter brought an extra Stir Fried Vegetable with Salted Egg Yolk again. We did not hesitate, since we were addicted to it and it was like my prayers were answered, we took the extra vegetable again.

The Claypot Prawn soup has a pinch of black pepper, with cucumbers and salted vegetable in sight. While the soup tasted a lil’ spicy with sweetness from the cucumbers and prawn, somehow the prawns were a bit let down as it is rubbery.
The Butter Toufu came, it was nicely deep fried with its skin crispy on the outside. The toufu has bits of water chestnut inside making it fun to bite on!

Our last dish was the Ham Heong Pork Belly, the signature dish of the Restaurant. The dish was accompanied with Lady’s Finger, brinjal & chilies.

Overall, the Restaurant serves at an affordable price albeit the Prawn dish that costs a little extra. If you are looking for a good and yet affordable Chinese meal over the weekend, do visit this place as its service was good = fast serving dishes as this is the only place I know in Balakong. TOTAL DAMAGE for the night was RM 81.80 for the 4 of us.

Fiona brought us to The Mines next. There was a night market just beside and we decided to check it out. Most of the traders I observed either sell items from Thailand or second-hand items. Worth checking out if you’re an night owl, as they started to open up the stalls from 9pm onwards. We end the night having drinks by the lake at The Gasoline and got a lil' irked by the poor service.....

The RM2 fast food meal...

Sorry for this long outdated post as I’m still all soaked with Chinese New Year mood. Happy Chinese New Year & Happy Chap Goh Meh (a.k.a. Valentine's Day) to everyone out there!

So, ever wonder why most of my post I hunt for food with discounts? If you would have notice, I mentioned in my previous post that I keep a watchful of my wallet when it comes to food, so that’s why.

Cut the story short, thanks to IAmTheWitch.com in her post about Groupsmore.com. The moment I joined, there was this true-good-to-be-true offer, Darabif at the price of RM 2! Can you believe it?! I bought 6 vouchers immediately after I inform my makan kaki, Fiona about this.

Groupsmore voucher: Buy, Pay & Print and you're good to go!

Off we went to the nearest Darabif outlet, our official hometown, IOI Mall Puchong. The deal offers 1 type of selected Darabif burger, 1 fries and 1-year membership. Basically, we can only choose burgers with 1 meat patty in it, why? Because, Darabif also offers 2 patties in a burger, whoa!

Fiona & “H” went for the Lamb Burger while KC & I ordered the Spicy Chicken without any drinks. I’ll let you know why later. KC took his first bite & says the patty is a lil’ bit dry while Fiona & “H” enjoyed their Lamb Burger, they both comment it was very juicy.

Arrggh, I should have taken the Lamb Burger as I was a little bit disappointed with Darabif’s Spicy Chicken. You see, I thought it would be as good as the McD’s Spicy Chicken, but instead the meat patty was the normal version of any chicken patty and it was drench with a little orangey-sauce that tasted a bit spicy.

The interior of Darabif fared better than their first outlet at Damansara, with their decorations being a little bit funky, the chairs, wall colours and the cold air-cond makes it very comfortable as the outlet is located at the IOI Mall new wing.

Darabif's Mean Hot Chick

Now, back to the meal without drinks. I just came back from Singapore not long ago, the whole Sour Sally yogurt ice-cream that Megan got me hooked with, I was saving some space for my tummy to try “Tutti Frutti”, this outlet that shared half of the shop with Darabif. I tried searching for more information about Darabif thinking that they may have some connection, but instead it just list “Tutti Frutti” under the Naza Group. I was like in disbelief, hmmm….

The guys gave us the privilege to choose all the assorted flavours at Tutti Frutti. There was much more choice than Sour Sally and I was little shy to take pictures, too many pairs of eyes were watching. Assorted types of toppings too!

I choose 2 flavours, Blueberry and obviously, the Original with peanuts, Oreo’s & strawberry for toppings. I had this system in my mind now, don’t ever under-estimate Yogurt or the Original’s, that was how they were born and were mixed around for more varieties. Fiona chose 3 flavours, Chocolate, Blueberry & Original with chocolate flakes & cotton candies.

My first bite, ooh-la-la, this is very much alike the Sour Sally except it wasn’t that sour. I wonder how the Pomegranate would taste, perhaps 100% much more sour than the original. I fell in love with yogurts now, thanks to Megan, now my wallet need to grow constantly to satisfy these cravings.

Tutti Frutti charges RM 0.53 per 10grams

Can't really remember the price but it was roughly at RM 10+

Fiona's costs slightly around RM 14+

Let's stay FIT and also Froyo at the same time!

KC suggested the makan session to continue with snacks, at the Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks. Fiona & KC each got the Oyster Mee Sua and out of the blue, “H” suggested we share the Fried Golden XXL Chicken. The freezing air-cond at IOI Mall complimented with these snacks, felt like it was winter in Taiwan while having these snacks, having some laughter and sharing food within us. I felt so warm….there would be more makan sessions in future.
